As the summer driving season looms gas and diesel prices continue on an upward trend. Average gas prices in Yakima are up 6.8 cents a gallon over the last week selling for an average of $4.62 per gallon according to GasBuddy's survey of 91 stations in Yakima. GasBuddy officials say prices in Yakima are 6.0 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.24 per gallon higher than a year ago. They also say the price of diesel has risen 22.6 cents nationally in the past week and stands at $5.51 per gallon Monday. GasBuddy price reports say the cheapest station in the valley is in Wapato priced at $4.18 per gallon while the most expensive was $5.09 per gallon, a difference of 91.0 cents per gallon.

The lowest price in the state yesterday was $3.79 per gallon while the highest was $5.79 per gallon, a difference of $2.00 a gallon. “Gasoline and diesel prices alike saw strong upward momentum last week as oil prices continued to climb after the EU signaled its desire to sanction Russian oil. In addition, U.S. petroleum inventories saw yet another weekly decline as we near the start of summer driving season," says Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "Not only are diesel prices at a record high, they are at their largest differential to gasoline on record, surpassing the 98-cent difference in 2008 and currently standing at a $1.20 per gallon premium. While motorists filling with gasoline have seen a slight rise in prices, diesel's surge will be a double whammy as diesel prices will soon be passed along to retail channels, further pushing up the cost of goods."

On the national side the price of gas is up 13.6 cents per gallon over the last week selling for an average of $4.31 per gallon. GasBuddy officials say the national average price is up 19.6 cents per gallon and is selling for $1.36 per gallon higher than a year ago.
