An alarming video has captured the moment a mother and daughter made a big mistake while filling up their car at a petrol station.
A mother and daughter duo have made a stressful error when filling up their petrol tank at a petrol station in the US.
Rachel Rice and her mother Christy, drove away from the petrol station where they had filled up their tank, on what they considered a normal day.
The two began driving along the highway when Rachel made an alarming discovery as she looked through the side mirror of the vehicle.
The fuel nozzle that was used to fill the car, was still attached to the tank filler, with the pump’s hose dragging along the road.
The high school student captured the moment her mother pulled over on the side of the highway to remove the pump from the car, in a video that has since received over 5 million views on TikTok.
We have a major problem… but on the bright side, free gas pump? #greenscreenvideo#gas#gaspump#istolethis
“We have a major problem,” the video was captioned.
“But on the bright side, free gas pump?”
Christy began repeating “oh my lord,” as she inspected the state of the fuel pump.
The pair proceeded to drive back to the gas station to return the broken-off petrol hose.
“We have a major problem, we drove away and we hadn’t put,” Christy told the young man working at the petrol station while dangling the broken pump in front of him.
“Is that putting people in danger right now?”
The employee seemed unphased as he proceeded to tell the women “oh no that’s fine,” before taking the pump.
“To be clear, we are smart I swear … we were just distracted,” said Miss Rice following the incident.
While some viewers shared the mother and daughter’s shock at having the pump break off the fuel dispenser and travel with them down the road, others commented saying this was nothing out of the ordinary.
“I worked at a gas station and this happened all the time. Like at least 2-3 times a month. It was insane,” one commenter said.
“For people wondering, the pump just clips back in place. Nobody gets in trouble or is charged anything. I worked at a gas station and it happened a lot,” said another.
Later the young woman revealed she wanted to leave the pump behind on the road, out of fear for being reprimanded for taking and breaking it, but her mother insisted it be returned.
“I wanted to leave it and she told me we needed to return it,” she said.
“The nice cashier’s ‘um no it’s fine’ is my favourite. He said he had never seen this before but he was so calm,” Rachel said of the petrol station employee.
Other TikTok users questioned how the pair failed to realise they had driven away in the first place, pump attached.
“I think I don’t check my mirrors enough,” Miss Rice said.
“It wasn’t that loud so we thought it was something in our car.”
