WILLMAR — No one was injured Wednesday morning when a garbage truck caught fire in Willmar.

A caller reported a garbage truck on fire around 5:21 a.m. Wednesday near the Panda Garden restaurant in the 1300 block of First Street South, according to a news release from Matt Grave, deputy fire chief of the Willmar Fire Department.

Firefighters extinguished the flames by using water and firefighting foam from three hose lines, and by using water from a ladder truck.

No injuries to firefighters or the driver of the West Central Sanitation truck were reported, according to the release.

Fire crews remained on scene until 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The Willmar Fire Department was assisted by the Willmar Police Department and CentraCare Emergency Medical Services — Willmar.
