They are No. 23 Cincinnati, No. 24 Houston and No. 25 BYU.

Xavier McKinney had a breakout season with the New York Giants in 2021 and there’s more on his plate this year. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has given the third-year safety from Alabama the responsibility of relaying the defensive calls from the sideline to the team. Players who have that role wear a green dot on their helmets. McKinney, who led the team with five interceptions in 2021 and was third on the team with 93 tackles, has not had a problem adding the job.

Police say their investigation determined that Samardza initially stopped at a stop sign before for “unknown reasons” she left and drove into the truck’s path.

The prosecutor investigating whether former President Donald Trump and others illegally tried to interfere in the 2020 election in Georgia is seeking information about a breach of voting equipment in a county roughly 200 miles south of her Atlanta office. The widening of the probe highlights the latest case in which unauthorized people appear to have gained access to voting equipment since the 2020 election, primarily in battleground states lost by Trump. Election experts have raised concerns that sensitive information shared online about the equipment may have exposed vulnerabilities that could be exploited by people intent on disrupting future elections.

The Border Patrol says one of its agents rescued an infant and a toddler who were left alone in southwestern Arizona’s Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. A migrant in a group of border crossers arrested Thursday west of the Lukeville, Arizona, port of entry alerted an agent about the children. An 18-month-old was found crying, and a 4-month-old was discovered face-down and unresponsive. Border Patrol officials blamed smugglers. Officials hope to fully reopen the main highway from Los Angeles to Phoenix by early next week after a flash flood washed out part of the road through the Southern California desert. The flooding began Wednesday evening amid the latest round of monsoonal thunderstorms to hit the region this summer. The damaged roadway was part of a detour past a repair project along eastbound Interstate 10 near the small community of Desert Center, about 165 miles east of Los Angeles. The California Department of Transportation on Friday said crews are working around the clock to restore the detour lane by early next week, which would reopen both eastbound lanes to motorists.

Federal regulators have issued a final environmental impact statement that supports the demolition of four massive dams on Northern California’s Klamath River to save imperiled migratory salmon. The staff's recommendation, which echoes an earlier draft opinion, tees up a vote on the nearly $500 million project by the five-member Federal Energy Regulatory Commission later this year. The removal of the four hydroelectric dams would be the largest dam demolition project in U.S. history. The aging dams near the Oregon-California border were built before current environmental regulations and essentially cut the 253-mile-long river in half for migrating salmon.

South Carolina is using a recently approved method to stretch its supply of monkeypox vaccines as case numbers rise in the Palmetto State. Over two weeks ago, U.S. health officials authorized a method that involves giving the shot under the first layer of skin instead of deeper fat tissue. Doing so allows providers to increase the available supply by five times. Officials cite a 2015 study that shows 94% of people who received the lesser dose had sufficient antibody levels. Those eligible for the vaccine include men who have sex with men and have had either a sexually transmitted infection or multiple sex partners in the past 90 days.

He also won eight times on the PGA Tour. Woody Austin, the 1995 Buick Open winner, was a stroke back at 66 with Brett Quigley and Stephen Ames. Scott Parel followed at 67.

While the FBI affidavit justifying the search of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate is highly redacted, it includes new details about the classified information that was stored at the former president's home. Among the top takeaways revealed by the document is that Trump had ‘a lot’ of classified records stored at his club, which had not been authorized for the storage of information. The document reveals that the records included top intelligence secrets and some were mixed with other papers, such as magazines and photos. The redacted affidavit also shows that Trump had repeated opportunities to return the documents.

She said Friday that the home was filled with dirty, snake-infested water in 2020.

Wisconsin’s Republican Assembly leader has withdrawn subpoenas submitted as part of a Republican-led investigation into the 2020 election, marking the end of a 14-month endeavor that yielded no evidence of election fraud. Speaker Robin Vos on Friday withdrew subpoenas submitted to mayors across the state by former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman, who he hired to investigate President Joe Biden's win in 2020. Vos fired Gableman two weeks ago after narrowly surviving a primary election against a Trump-backed political newcomer. Withdrawing Gableman's subpoenas signals the end of his investigation. Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, who was among the subpoena targets, said the investigation did nothing but harm public confidence in elections and waste taxpayer funds.

Terpsehore “Tore” Maras is running for secretary of state. Retired Ohio Supreme Court Justice Terrence O’Donnell recommended against Maras on Friday, a day after an hourslong protest hearing on signature challenges and her party affiliation. O'Donnell found that 18 of the 35 challenged signatures that had qualified Maras for the ballot were invalid, taking her below the 5,000 required. The issue now returns to GOP Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office.

The first woman Serena Williams will face in what is expected to be the last tournament of her stellar career says she is honored to play someone she remembers watching on TV as a child. Danka Kovinic is a 27-year-old from Montenegro who has never been past the second round at the U.S. Open or the third round at any Grand Slam tournament. She says she has crossed paths with Williams in locker rooms on tour but couldn’t strike up the nerve to ask if they could practice together. Kovinic has never hit a ball in Arthur Ashe Stadium, although she is hoping to practice there over the weekend before facing Williams on Monday night.

The 22-year-old Araiza and two former teammates at San Diego State are accused of the assault in a lawsuit. A police investigation is currently being evaluated by San Diego prosecutors.

It said the mall wasn’t locked down because the arrest was immediate. Bloomington police said the man had just robbed an athletic apparel store when he was arrested by mall security officers. Their statement said security officers had been alerted by a caller who saw the man enter the mall.

The people told The Associated Press on Friday that United Teachers of Dade President Karla Hernandez-Mats will be announced as Crist’s running mate on Saturday. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement hasn’t been made yet. The pick will guarantee that DeSantis’ education policies are an issue in the campaign.

But he is out injured and manager Frank Lampard has been playing without a recognized center forward this season.

It will make it a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail for educators to give K-12 students books with photos, drawings or other visual depictions that are sexually explicit. There are exceptions for anatomy, biology, art or other images that are educational. The law does not ban written descriptions that might be considered sexually explicit. The Missouri Association of School Librarians says the law likely will only apply to certain comic books and graphic novels, which are longer comic books.

Virginia is currently on a path toward adopting California’s new, stringent rules for transitioning to zero-emission vehicles because of 2021 legislation that involved adopting the West Coast state’s emissions standards. That's according to attorneys and state officials who weighed in after California regulators adopted the new rules Thursday. Last year's legislation was a key priority of environmental advocates. House Republicans opposed it at the time. They now control the chamber and said Friday they would make a second push next year to unlink Virginia’s standards from California's. Environmental attorneys said updating Virginia's standards would be a win for consumers and clean air.
