Repair work should see Beibu Gulf asset back to full output within two months

China National offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has been forced to suspend production at its WeiWZ-12-8E offshore field in China’s Beibu Gulf following a power outage on Friday.

Operations to restart production identified an issue with the flexible hose connecting the field to the WZ12-8W field.

Partner Australia’s Horizon Oil said that while there had been no oil spill to the environment, the WZ12-8E field would remain shut-in until the affected section of the flexible hose has been repaired, which is expected to take one to two months.

Production from the WZ6-12 and WZ12-8W fields in the Beibu Gulf will continue while the repair work is undertaken, these fields currently deliver around 7200 barrels per day of oil gross.

Before last Friday’s incident, production from the Block 22/12 Beibu fields including WZ12-8E was averaging about 12,800 bpd of oil following start-up from the A4 well on this field.

Meanwhile, the WZ12-8E A3 well was recently drilled and completed, and it will recommence clean-up once output from the field is restored. The A3 well alone is expected to add 2000 bpd of oil when it first comes on stream.

CNOOC and its partners are continuing drilling operations at the WZ12-8E field where the A5 well is under way. This production well too is expected to contribute around 2000 bpd of crude when it is brought into operation.

Following completion operations at the A5 well, the final well in this development drilling campaign — WZ12-8E A6 will be drilled.

The joint venture will then review the overall field performance before considering further development drilling, noted Horizon.

On the wider Block 22/12, a number of exploration and appraisal wells, infill drilling targets and well workovers are at the final planning stage.

The Block 22/12 partners are operator CNOOC with 51%, Horizon on 26.95%, Roc Oil having 19.6% and Oil Australia with 2.45%.
