All-American right-side hitter Kendall Kipp had 15 kills and freshman Elia Rubin had 13 kills to lead No. 9 Stanford to a 27-25, 25-22, 19-25, 27-25 win against Nebraska on Tuesday, giving Nebraska its first loss of the season.

All but one of the sets was close, fitting for the top-10 matchup. Stanford made fewer errors than Nebraska at the end of the first two sets to get the 2-0 match lead.

And Nebraska had too many hitting errors, hitting out 14 times.

Stanford got the win even while making 23 serving errors.

Madi Kubik led Nebraska with 13 kills.

So Nebraska had its seven-match winning streak to start the season come to an end in its first test against top-10 team.

Stanford (5-2) has one of the bests starts of any team in the nation with three top-15 wins – Nebraska, No. 3 Minnesota and No. 13 Florida.

Stanford has won five straight matches against Nebraska in five different seasons.

It was an everybody on your feet end to the match. Stanford had a set point, but Nebraska fought it off twice. Krause had back-to-back kills, one on a clean set from Orr and one by blasting back an overpass to put Nebraska up 25-24.

But Kipp denied Nebraska’s first set point when she put a tip over Nebraska’s blockers to tie the set at 25. Then Rubin blasted a kill to the back row that Nebraska couldn’t handle, giving Stanford a second match point. Kipp got the final kill of the match with a shot of Nebraska’s blockers.

Larson is back in the state after spending last spring and summer on the coaching staff at Texas. She resigned her position last month.

For all of the successes this group has enjoyed, something is still missing. A new chase for a Big Ten title begins this weekend, writes Brent C. Wagner.

A 10-week sprint for a conference crown begins this weekend. Ready for some Big Ten volleyball? Here's Brent C. Wagner's breakdown.

Kelsey (Robinson) Cook and Justine-Wong Orantes are the ex-Huskers on the roster for one of the major international tournaments.

The first loss of the season for the Nebraska volleyball team only dropped the Huskers one spot to No. 3 in the new AVCA poll released Monday.

“She’s out for right now. I don’t know,” Nebraska coach John Cook said about Nicklin Hames, who had to leave the Stanford match due to injury.

Stanford committed the most service errors a team has made against Nebraska in the rally-scoring era — and still won. "It should haunt us,” John Cook said.

Jordan Larson reportedly left the Texas volunteer coaching position for personal reasons.

It's the second week in a row that Cook goes against one of his former assistants — this time being Tyler Hildebrand and Long Beach State.

Cook seems to be warming up to the possibility of moving one of Nebraska’s matches from the Devaney Sports Center to Pinnacle Bank Arena.
