POTTSVILLE — The marquee is up and the lights are on, but customers interested in shopping at TJ Maxx will have to wait a few more months for the newest Fairlane Village mall store to open.
Rocco Aruzzo, regional manager for Lexington Realty, the mall’s owner, said the department store is expected to open some time in October. He said supply chain problems and workers’ vacations delayed the opening.
Katie MacLeod, a spokeswoman for the company, also said the store will open in the fall.
Officials had planned for the store, which will be located between Michael’s and Dollar Tree, to open in August. Construction crews began work in January.
The store’s name is on the facade and a few pieces of construction equipment and shopping carts are visible.
Flyers on the door say the store is hiring for hourly supervisors.
Signs at the entrance to the mall in Norwegian and East Norwegian townships advertise TJ Maxx as “coming soon.” A scan of the QR code on them reveals a description of the position, responsibilities and requirements.
Founded in 1976, TJ Maxx is based in Framingham, Massachusetts. It is known for selling men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, along with shoes, toys, beauty accessories, furniture and kitchen utensils.
It is part of Marmaxx in the United States, along with Marshalls.
There are 1,271 TJ Maxx stores in the United States and Canada, including at the Laurel Mall in Hazleton, which is also owned by Lexington Realty.
The new store will be in a spot formerly occupied by Brothers Buffet, a Chinese food restaurant. The restaurant reopened next to Harbor Freight in June.
