MINOT AIR FORCE BASE – A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Combat Arms Training and Maintenance (CATM) facility will be held Friday afternoon at Minot Air Force base.

The CATM range is a year-round facility for Minot AFB airmen to maintain required firearms proficiency.

Minot AFB maintains the third busiest range in the U.S. Air Force, providing about 9,000 certifications each year.

The new facility was completed in late 2021. Its range has 35 firing points compared to 15 firing points on the old range. The additional firing points have increased the wing’s weapon certification mission by 112%.

The new range keeps students and instructors out of the elements. On average CATM personnel had to cancel about 15 rifle, pistol and machine gun classes a year due to inclement weather, according to Minot AFB information. This causes an average of 225 students annually to be rescheduled on different dates. In addition, the classroom capacity has increased to 70 students compared to 15, allowing two classes to be taught at once.
